Dorsey, Anna H., Washington, D.C., to Father Daniel E. Hudson, C.S.C., Notre Dame, Indiana, 1876 October 2

 Item — Box: CHUD 1
Identifier: CHUD X-2-d

Scope and Contents

Because of the humiliation it would subject her to she regrets that she cannot comply with Hudson's request by writing the story he in his letter asked her to write. She is very sorry that she must sever relations with the Ave Maria. However, she promised herself that when her compositions no longer influenced the reader toward doing good she would discontinue writing. According to several critics at Notre Dame, this time has come, and thus her decision. She wishes the Ave Maria continual success and she thanks Hudson for the kindness he has shown her. Illness prevented her from answering Hudson's letter of several weeks ago. She forwarded it to the Benziger Brothers with whom she is negotiating for the publication of "Tangled Paths" without much hope of success. She was happy to learn that the San Francisco Moniter publicly corrected a misstatement previously made in its columns. Prayers and a letter from Hudson would be very much appreciated. :: X-2-d A.L.S. 6pp. 12mo.
