Scope and Contents

Burr has before him an account of the last hour of Thomas Paine, apparently taken from Clarke's "Deceased Prelates", purporting to be a letter by the late Bishop Benedict Joseph Fenwick . Burr asks Clarke to answer the seven questions about this letter, its authenticity, whereabouts, date of publication, copies or original extant, etc. All he wants are the bottom facts, the exact truth. Notre in Clarke's hand: "Deathbed of Tom Paine extract from letter of Bishop Benedict Fenwick to his brother at Georgetown College, U.S. Catholic Magazine, 1846-p.559. :: I-2-n A.L.S. 2pp. 12mo.
