Katzer, Archbishop Frederick Xavier, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to Archbishop Michael Augustine Corrigan, New York, New York, 1891 September 6

 Item
Identifier: CANY I-1-i

Scope and Contents

The Bishops of the Milwaukee Province have petitioned the Holy See for erection of a new Diocese in Wisconsin. They intend to propose as dignissimus a priest of Irish descent, but from outside the Province and not of the liberal tendency of Archbishop John Ireland, whose neighbor he will be. Katzer has mentioned the name of Father Henry A. Brann, of New York, to Bishop John Vertin to be put down as dignissimus, if Corrigan can recommend him. Katzer asks Corrigan to mark his answer private. :: I-1-i A.L.S. 2pp. 4to. Photostat from Archdiocesan Archives of New York
