Scope and Contents

In a letter written for publication in the Freeman's Journal, Beck criticizes a reveiw of the English translation of the life of Anne Catherine Emmerich from the German of C.E. Schmőger, C.SS.R. The review appeared in the Catholic Quarterly Review for July 1885, and was critical to the book, especially of the wide use made by Schmőger of Brentano's notes about Sister Emmerich. Beck tries to prove from the facts as they are set forth in the biography, that Clement Brentano was the "Pilgrim" sent by God to be Sister Emmerich's ammanuensis. He finds Schmőger's use of Brentano perfectly justified, and sees no reason why the reviewer in the Catholic Quarterly Review should have found the book so unsatisfactory, when many other reviewers were highly pleased. :: I-2-f A.L.S. 32pp. 8vo.
