Neraz, Joannes C., Bishop of San Antonio, Texas, San Antonio, Texas, to James Alphonsus McMaster, New York, New York, 1881 December 31

 Item
Identifier: CMMA I-2-d

Scope and Contents

Neraz sends $6. for the Freeman's Journal for himself and Father L. Genolin. Neraz regrets that he did not answer McMaster's telegram of the previous February but he was so surprised by it that he was sick. His priests all wrote to him advising him to accept the heavy burden and when he felt himself again he considered it too late to write. He felt rather vexed to see the whole thing published in the papers and to receive the letters from his priests urging him to accept his appointment as Bishop when he had no chance to refuse until he had received official notice from Rome. For his penance McMaster must pray for Neraz' success. P.S. This letter is intended to be entirely private and personal. :: I-2-d A.L.S. 2pp. 12mo.
