De Pauw, Father Edmund M., Chateaugay, New York, to James Alphonsus McMaster, New York, New York, 1875 April 1

 Item
Identifier: CMMA I-2-a

Scope and Contents

He is very grateful for McMaster's invitation to the reception of the Papal Envoys, however he declines it for he feels that he is too insignificant a person to intrude into the presence of the messengers of the Holy Father. This conviction is so sincere that it has kept him from writing the Archbishop. He thinks that he does not deserve the exalted consideration which McMaster holds him. The only motive that could have induced him to yield to the invitation would be to speak to in Italian with Msgr. Roncetti on the state of things here, trying to convey to him some of McMaster's impressions. He thinks McMaster did an admirable task in providing the reception for the Envoys and that they will feel grateful. He hopes that McMaster will use this opportunity to foster the interests so dear to him. He wishes McMaster every success and prays that he will succeed. :: I-2-a A.L.S. 4pp. 12mo.
