Scope and Contents
Bayley's letter to Bishop Martin John Spalding came yesterday. Spalding being sick, C. is answering the letter. They think it best for Bailey to come to Louisville immediately and repair to St. Joseph's Infirmary. He will not be disturbed here. What can be done for him will be done. Necessarily they have they have to keep in the background. Nannie, C.'s goddaughter, is with her husband, safe and joyous as she could be under the circumstances. Before leaving this city, she wrote her sister a long letter with instructions for Bailey's benefit. C. also wrote about that "Sister of Mercy." ` A.L.S. ` On the same paper:
