Kenrick, Francis Patrick, Archbishop of Baltimore, Maryland, to Bishop Francis Patrick McFarland of, Hartford, Connecticut, 1861 May 8

 Item
Identifier: CDHT I-1-a

Scope and Contents

Father Thomas Quinn from Hartford, accompanying a regiment, applied last week to Kenrick for faculties which he gave him. Mary Crane claims she was married to Michael McGee in the Hartford Cathedral May 1, 1856 by Father Patrick Gaynor before James Quinn and Joanna Fleming and that her husband died March 27, 1859 and was buried in the cathedral cemetery. Kenrick wants a certificate signed by a clergyman as soon as convenient. Conditions are critical in Maryland and Baltimore and they ask prayers to escape consequences of the riot of April 17. There is an encampment 8 miles from the city to protect the bridge to Washington. Troops from Pennsylvania are expected the next day. They have not been molested, newspaper stories to the contrary. Religion seems to have no part in this strife. :: I-1-a A.L.S. 1p. 4to.
