General

Document. Copy of the paper Gordon is to give at the symposium with attached notes. ~ Gordon discusses Merton's advocacy of non-violence and discusses the issues of war and violence. He says that non-violence was not one of Maritain's primary concerns, if at all, and he finds it troubling that Maritain did not take seriously non-violence as a way of resisting oppressive regimes. Gordon says that his own personal position is closer to Merton's and he discusses Merton's commitment to non-violence as a position that must be taken despite the consequences.
