Includes letter from Glenn Thistelthwaite to Knute Rockne 02/14/1929: “Regarding the matter of the Notre Dame-Wisconsin game in Chicago; this was discussed by our Council and it was their unanimous feeling that this could not be a conference case in that Notre Dame is the home team, and the contract is a very definite one having been approved by both parities including our own faculty last year. We discussed the matter with representatives of four different conference schools and they agree with us that there is nothing that involves conference action. For similar cases they have cited Michigan playing the Army at Baltimore and her game with the Marines at Ann Arbor, the Illinois-Army game at New York City and a few others that do not happen to occur to me just now. We have had no word of any attempt to Professor Long to bring the matter before conference representatives and feel that any statements he may be making have no bearing on the situation. We feel sure of our grounds in this case and would not hesitate to tell the Conference this is our own private affair.”
