A sister of Our Lady of Charity of the Good Shepherd cuts large hosts from a thin sheet of unleavened bread at the Good Shepherd Convent, St. Louis, Mo. The Good Shepherd sisters are one of six cloistered communities of nuns in the St. Louis archdiocese, four of which are engaged in the making of altar breads. They turn out about 30,000,000 hosts a year. [Our Sunday Visitor, Gary edition, 7/27/1958 issue], 1958
