Abstract
Correspondence and legal documents concerning Father Sorin's efforts to obtain 400 acres in South Chicago worth some $100,000 and formerly owned by Father Louis C. DeSeille (?-1839), a missionary to the Indians of Northern Indiana who was buried at Notre Dame. Legal documents include a contract between Sorin and Melanie DeSeille and correspondence with a P.M. Flannigan of Chicago concerning the original Indian rights to the land.
