Letters Received by Fr. Sorin, 1842-1893
Abstract
From Bishops, lay people, religious, CSC members, and institutions. The letters are grouped into folders, each folder containing a partial listing of correspondents. The letters generally deal with Sorin's capacity as CSC Provincial and include reports from various CSC houses and missionaries; responses to Sorin circulars; petitions for favors; . Letters from priests outside the order and from Bishops often offer advice or request favors. Letters of a more personal nature are present in the form of holiday greetings sent to Sorin and messages of confession or thanks. The annotation that follows gives a very incomplete picture of the topics covered for any one year, but taken together, the descriptions suggest the range of topics dealt with in these letters.
